You did it! You finished the hardest part and wrote the dang thing. Let's make your writing shine.
Line editing manages the stylistic components of writing. Flow, style, voice, pacing, and readability are tackled line by line at the sentence and paragraph level.
Copyediting addresses the mechanics of writing (grammar, spelling, syntax, diction, and punctuation) with adherence to the rules of a chosen style guide (Chicago, AP, APA, house, ...).
Proofreading is the final stage of editing before a manuscript is finalized for typesetting. Freelance proofreading services are available to publishing professionals.
Take your writing to the next level. Achieve your goals.
Extensive coverage (2-3 p.) addresses plot, structure, pacing, character arcs and character development, and marketability. Review requires script to be submitted as a PDF or Final Draft file. Limit: 150 pages.
In-depth review of the substantive elements of a manuscript (structure, pacing, plot, character, voice, scene structure, consistent tenses, etc.). An excerpt of the first chapter and the total manuscript word count is required to establish coverage rates.
Writers benefit from conversation with an experienced editor prior to engaging agents and acquisitions editors. High school students tackling college admissions essays benefit from conversation with a former university essay-reviewer-turned-professional-editor. Workshops are available August-November and January-April.
Hourly rates are aligned with median rates published by the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA). Per the EFA: Individual members’ rates vary considerably depending on multiple factors, including the nature of the work, time frame of the assignment, degree of special expertise required, cost of living, and member’s experience and region of the country. Projects will not commence until Horizon Line and the client(s) agree to the scope of work and fee. A 25% deposit is required for projects quoted $250 or more. The deposit is nonrefundable.
